Register for The Faculty Institute ’13: Effective Instruction for the Pace Student
The primary purpose of the Faculty Institute is to promote collaboration and create partnerships among faculty, administrators, staff and students. The twelfth annual Faculty Institute will take place May 21-22, 2013, on the New York City Campus.
Day one of this year’s Institute will focus on the growing influence of digital resources in teaching and learning. At Pace we have made great strides with incorporating and creating digital resources into our courses. We have invited Kelly Schrum, PhD, Associate Professor of History and the Director of Educational Projects at the Center for History and New Media (CHNM) at George Mason University to be our keynote speaker. Dr. Schrum will address the power of digital resources and their impact on expanding and enhancing courses. The challenge of digital literacy and the effective incorporation of multimedia will be discussed. Lunch sessions with Pace students will highlight their course projects using digital resources.
Day two will address differential instruction and the challenges of meeting the academic discourse needs of Pace students. Theoretical aspects regarding the development of writing skills and alignment between students’ abilities and professors’ expectations will be discussed. Monika Ekiert, EdD, of the City University of New York (CUNY) along with Hansun Zhang Waring, EdD, of Columbia University will present and lead a discussion on second language acquisition, instruction, as well as social interaction.
